Scotties are popular in Ukraine and sadly we have reports of some losses during the current conflict with Russia. On May 8, Pavel Semik, organiser of Kyiv’s popular Black and White Parade, discussed with George Matlock about the conditions on the ground and how he is helping his country and the Scotties. First broadcast 13 May 2022.

Friends! We are glad to meet your club! And we are very grateful for the support and assistance for Ukraine from the UK. There is political and military assistance, and there is also human, friendly support. We feel such support in your community! This is very valuable for us. We will try to continue to share first-hand information about the events in Ukraine so that you know the truth. And, of course, we will be very happy to see everyone at our next, victorious “Kyiv BLACK & WHITE parade”! Come to beautiful free Kyiv, you will definitely fall in love with this city and our hospitable people!

Thank you friend! Big greetings from Buba and Sol from Ukraine 🙂
Would love to visit Kyev for the Black and White parade when this terrible war is all over! In the meantime we must all spread the word and keep the courageous people of Ukraine at the forefront of the worlds stage!
You are so right Glyn. It struck me how Pavel didn’t ask for material, worldly goods, only for publicity for the war in order to ensure that the suffering is not forgotten.
LSC certainly agrees with you and we might well arrange some kind of group visit to Kyiv for the ceremony. We will also be recommending to organisers that dogs are registered for the event to ensure that black Scotties receive a special parade bandana in Yellow and that Westies, Wheaten Scotties and Cairn terriers receive light blue in the Victory Edition of the Black and White Parade. I think you know why…
Amazing podcast George! Very informative and very moving!
I won’t spoil if for listeners. You have to tune in to find out why Elaine found it so moving. I admit, Collared! interviews are usually challenging and often touch serious topics and losses. But it is also important to give people in plight or sorrow a voice. We try to do that and we also encourage people to email the club with suggestions. We want to hear from you too!
Remarkable. I visited Kyiv a few years ago for the UEFA Champions League final and was thrilled to see a couple of Scotties in the city centre. How lovely to hear that the breed is popular there but how harrowing to hear first hand reports from the war. Glory to Ukraine!
Thank you Matt. It is true that Scotties are very popular in both the invading and the defending nations. For the sake of Scotties and humanity we hope the conflict is resolved peacefully soon.
Brilliant. The chat was very clear
We overcame some technical issues. Glad the end result was worth everyone’s efforts especially at this difficult and dark time.
Thank you George for this interview experience! It was not easy and exciting to speak in front of an English audience. Especially considering my level of English proficiency.))
And thank you for raising such difficult topics. The war is going on right now and it is going through the soul, it is tearing it apart. It is important to talk about this so that people know what is really happening.
And we will be very happy to march in Kyiv with you and other members of the club!
